Alfred Dunhill are one of the few remaining British based horologists and manufacturers of fine timepieces that produce truly luxurious items. As well as watches Alfred Dunhill also produce various other luxury goods such as leather goods (including wallets), writing implements, lighters, clothing and some of the finest fragrances in the world. The company was founded by Alfred Dunhill the year after he took control of his father's saddlery buisness that wsa based on Euston Road in London. The first range of products Alfred Dunhill produced were actuall car accessories that were sold under the brand of "Dunhill's Motorities". This first collection was made up of car horns and lamps, goggles, picnic sets, leather coats and jackets and motoring watches. Alfred Dunhill presented the company to the world with the slogan "Everything For The Car But The Motor".
Alfred Dunhill went through a period of financial hardship in the 1960's and in 1967 Carreras purchased 51% of the companies shares making them the majority shareholder. Recently the company became a part of the Richemont group along with other watch manufacturers such as Baume et Mercier, IWC, Cartier and Piaget. The company is currently represented by Jude Law for any adverts and television spots in the Asian market. He will appear worldwide to represent the company during the Spring/Summer 2008 advertising season. Alfred Dunhill still continues to produce fragrances and perfumes, and any product of this type is marketed through Procter and Gamble and has been since 1995 when they purchased the Wella Corporation. Alfred Dunhill is also famous for representing many gold tournaments across the globe including the Alfred Dunhill Cup and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
