Swatch appear to be set to cease supplying movements to a variety of other Swiss companies. This could force some very famous brands to look to the East for their movements in the future in a move that could seriously harm the Swiss watch industry.
Swatch have been commenting on the situation for many years however this time it appears as though it may actually happen and it could have repercussions for 80% of the Swiss watch companies. Many now fear that this will result in watches being produced that are of an inferior quality and that will not represent the fine tradition of Swiss horology well.
Irregardless of how the situation turns out there is no denying that the Swiss watch industry stands on the edge of a precipice and what happens in the next 12 months will shape the industry for decades to come.
